With the Persian New year or Nowruz being just around the corner in Iran, people are getting prepared to welcome the arrival of spring. This comes as the the sixth wave of coronavirus in Iran appears to have been subsiding now.
The official daily number of fatalities, which had stood at 241 on February 27, fell to below 120 over the past couple of days.
The Persian new year, or Nowruz, arrives on March 21. The Nowruz holidays are traditionally a time when Iranians travel and visit each other. But health officials are worried that the exchange of visits and travels during the Persian New year will lead to a new wave of COVID-19 if health protocols are not fully observed.
According to official statistics over 56 million Iranians have received the second jabs of vaccines while over 24 million others have been vaccinated with the third shot.
Under the travel rules released for Iran’s third Nowruz with COVID-19 only those who have received at least two doses of vaccines will be allowed to travel by private cars across the country during Nowruz holidays, otherwise they will be fined.
