British Shia vent anger following bloody mosque bombing

British Muslims massed outside Pakistan's High Commission in London on Sunday to condemn sectarian killings of the country's Shia minority.

The vigil comes after a suicide bomber struck inside a Shia Muslim mosque in the north-western city of Peshawar during Friday prayers last week, killing around 60 worshippers and wounding some 196 people.

"The attack may have occurred thousands of miles away but the impact has rippled across the Muslim world. Well over 100 people have come out to send their prayers to Pakistan but also to vent their anger at continued violence.

Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack. The terror group has threatened more violence against Pakistan’s Shia. But these worshippers issued strong words of their own.

If your Islam is killing people and forcing people to convert to your extremist ideology then I think the Islam I choose is a million times better than the religion you choose. If becoming a creature like you is called being a Muslim then I think I’m fine with the religion I have chosen and all these people here stand with me.”

Friday's attack was the deadliest in the country since 2018, when 149 people lost their lives, including nine children, in a terrorist explosion at an election rally in Balochistan.

With more than one sectarian terrorist group active in Pakistan, many fear these bloodthirsty bombings will continue to plague Pakistan's religious minorities.
