British Airways says "continuing technical issues" have resulted in flight cancellations that caused an "absolute chaos" at London's Heathrow Airport.

The company cancelled all short-haul flights from London's Heathrow Airport until midday on Saturday as it deals with an IT failure.

"Our teams have been working hard through the night and will continue to do so to resolve the issue as soon as possible," the flagship carrier said.

The company denied any report of cyber-attacks, saying “significant” technical issues are disrupting operations and communications systems.

The grounding resulted in suitcases piling up, departure boards turning red and travelers voicing anger as some attempted their first holiday since the pandemic began in 2020.

“It was absolute chaos and completely disorganized at Heathrow this morning,” said a passenger.

The airway company's website and app were inaccessible for hours on Friday evening, preventing customers from checking in online or booking flights.
