Nearly 60 percent of Americans disapprove of US President Joe Biden's performance, a number that shows the country is turning against the Democratic leader.
According to a CNN poll released on Thursday, 58 percent of the American respondents disapprove of Biden’s job performance, while only 41 percent said they are satisfied with his work.
The same poll in December found that 49 percent of Americans approved and 51 percent disapproved of the president.
Only 36 percent of independents and 9 percent of Republicans approved of the Biden job performance in the new poll. However, 83 percent of Democrats still approve of Biden, but that’s a drop from 94 percent from last summer.
The survey is the latest in a series of polls showing Biden’s approval plummeting. The Biden administration has been under fire from across the political spectrum over inflation, its handling of the coronavirus, foreign policy and more.
Democrats are facing crucial midterm elections in November with Republicans being hopeful to regain control of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Biden's low approval is now below where Republican Donald Trump's approval stood at the beginning of November 2018.
In the November 2018 IBD/TIPP poll, Trump's approval was 42.6 percent.
Biden has not had a good approval rating since the final withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan on August 30 and there is little to indicate it will improve in the near future.
This has got Democrats worried as they fear it might affect the party’s performance in Nov. 8 elections. If Republicans manage to gain control of the House of Representatives or the Senate, Biden's legislative agenda would be seriously imperiled.
