Iranian non-oil exports rose by 18% in the calendar month to late January compared to the similar period last year as the country continues to earn more from overseas shipments at a time crude export revenues have declined because of US sanctions.
Figures published by the Iranian customs office (IRICA) on Monday showed that exports from the country had reached a value of $3.622 billion in the 30 days to January 20, 2022.
IRICA spokesman Rouhollah Latifi said that China remained the largest customer of Iranian non-oil exports in the month to late January with $1.25 billion worth of purchases, followed by Iraq at $0.514 billion and Turkey at $0.4 billion.
Latifi said that the United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan were collectively responsible for just less than $0.5 billion worth of imports from Iran over the same calendar month.
The official said that total Iranian trade had risen by 19% over January to $8.153 billion, adding that imports into Iran had also increased by 20% year on year.
Major exporters to Iran over the period were the UAE with $1.54 billion worth of shipments, followed by China at $1.126 billion and Turkey at $0.534 billion, IRICA figures showed .
The value of exports by Germany and Switzerland to Iran rose in January to reach $149 million and $131 million, respectively, according to the same data.
The figures showed that cargo transit through the Iranian territory had also increased by 61% in volume terms to reach 1.07 million metric tons.
