Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi met Syrian president Bashar al-Assad in Damascus. The two sides discussed bilateral relations and recent regional developments.

During the talks, Assad referred to both countries’ mutual understanding of regional issues, asserting that Arabs need to conduct realistic dialogue and set up a basis for political relations. He stressed that developments in the Arab world require a change of their political approach.

For his part, Busaidi conveyed to Assad greetings of the Omani Sultan, underlining Syria’s strong and brave stances in facing regional challenges.

The Omani FM also held talks with his Syrian counterpart.

For his part, Syrian foreign minister underlined the significance of collaboration with Oman for bringing Arabs together.

Oman has been working for years on alleviating tensions among Arab countries, mainly with regards to Syria. He arrived in Damascus from Kuwait where Arab foreign ministers were meeting.

The significance of Oman’s strategy towards Syria is that unlike many Arab countries, it did not sever its ties with Damascus. The visit comes as Arab countries are gradually restoring relations with Syria following the victory of the country’s government against terror.
