Police bodycam video shows aftermath of fatal shooting in North Carolina
The Fayetteville Police Department released on Friday (January 14) police bodycam video following the fatal shooting of a North Carolina black man by an off-duty sheriff's deputy last week.
The video shows police arriving to the scene and talking to witnesses following the shooting of 37-year-old Jason Walker.
Police in Fayetteville say that Walker had run into traffic and jumped on a moving vehicle before being shot by the driver, an off-duty deputy, who they said then called 911.
Fayetteville Police Chief Gina Hawkins later said a black box taken from the pickup truck of Jeffrey Hash, the off-duty deputy involved, showed no impact had happened, local media reported.
In a statement, the city of Fayetteville said that more bodycam footage may be released at a later date.
"The footage released today is only a few minutes long and represents the first videos we submitted to the judge. However, the City has filed a petition to have all of the body cam footage released which encompasses about 20 hours of video. Staff will be working as expeditiously as possible to review that video and submit it for the judge's consideration," the statement said.
Prominent U.S. civil rights attorney Ben Crump said on earlier in the week that he will represent Walker's family.
