Toyota’s Nasser Al-Attiyah has extended his advantage in the 2022 Dakar Rally with victory in stage 4, as Carlos Sainz hit trouble late in the stage.
Three-time Dakar winner, Al-Attiyah, took his second stage win of 2022 just 25 seconds clear of WRC legend Sebastien Loeb, who recovered from Tuesday’s disaster to grab second.
Further back, Sainz, who had a one-minute lead by the 8th way-point, hit some mechanical issues, to limp to the finish-line in third, 52 seconds behind the Qatari driver.
In the overall standings, Al-Attiyah has now stretched his lead over his nearest rival Sebastien Loeb, to a massive 38 minutes and 5 seconds.
