Israeli settler runs over, kills middle-aged Palestinian woman in occupied West Bank

A middle-aged Palestinian woman has lost her life after an Israeli settler ran her over in the central part of the West Bank, hours after dozens of Palestinians were wounded in violent attacks by Israeli forces during a raid into a village in the occupied territories.

Security sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Palestine’s official WAFA news agency that 55-year-old Ghadeer Anis Masalma was struck at the entrance to the town of Sinjil, which lies northeast of Ramallah, on Friday noon.

The sources added that the settler fled the scene after the attack.

There have been scores of “hit and run” incidents targeting Palestinians in different parts of the occupied West Bank, with most of them largely going uninvestigated by Israeli authorities. Some of such events have even resulted in fatalities.

A Palestinian boy, identified as Abdul-Rahim al-Jabari, was injured on September 2 after an Israeli settler ran him over near the illegal Israeli settlement of Kiryat Arba.

On May 30, an Israeli police vehicle ran over and injured a Palestinian teenage boy for raising a Palestinian flag on his bike in the occupied al-Quds neighborhood of Ras al-Amoud.

Palestinian witnesses, speaking on condition of anonymity, said at the time that three Israeli police officers chased 15-year-old Jawad Abbasi, who was riding his bike while hoisting a Palestinian flag, running him over and causing him bruises in the leg.

The Palestinian teenager was briefly detained by Israeli forces, before he was allowed to go to hospital for medical treatment.

Palestinians injured as settlers attack Burqa village

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) told WAFA that 42 Palestinians, including a journalist, were injured on Thursday after being struck with rubber-coated steel bullets during clashes with Israeli forces in the northern West Bank village of Burqa.

Eighty-three others suffered breathing difficulties due to inhaling teargas fired by Israeli forces.

The PRCS said a Palestinian girl was treated for shock after a group of violent Israeli settlers attacked her family’s home on the outskirts of the village.

Two ambulances were also hit by stun grenades and tear gas canisters fired by Israeli soldiers.

Prime Minister Shtayyeh calls for halt to settler violence against Palestinians

The Palestinian PM calls on the international community to help stop settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied territories.

Earlier this week, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh called on the international community to intervene and put a stop to the acts of violence by extremist Jewish settlers against Palestinians across the occupied territories.

Speaking at the opening of a weekly cabinet session in the central occupied West Bank city of Ramallah on Monday, Shtayyeh held Israel fully responsible for the rise in settler violence, and condemned Israel’s widespread and systematic shoot-to-kill policy targeting Palestinian civilians.

Israel occupied the West Bank and the Gaza Strip — territories the Palestinians want for a future state — during the six-day Arab-Israeli war in 1967. It later had to withdraw from Gaza.

More than 600,000 Israelis live in over 230 settlements built since the 1967 occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank. All the settlements are illegal under international law. The United Nations Security Council has condemned the settlement activities in several resolutions.
