Max Verstappen has been officially crowned 2021's Formula 1 champion after receiving his trophy at the FIA's Gala ceremony, which Sir Lewis Hamilton did not attend, following the controversial season-decider.
4 days after winning a dramatic Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and his maiden title, Verstappen received his Drivers' Championship trophy from the outgoing FIA president Jean Todt, at the Louvre museum in Paris. The achievement capped off Verstappen’s most successful F1 season to date, as he bagged 10 wins, 10 pole positions and 18 podium finishes. He now becomes Formula 1's 34th world champion at the age of 24. Neither Hamilton nor Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff were in attendance, as a protest to the way, the FIA handled the late-race safety car restart-procedure in Abu Dhabi.
