OIC holds meeting in Istanbul

The 46th executive committee meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC member states was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Addressing the opening session, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described the Palestinian cause as the cause of the entire Islamic world. He said defending al-Quds means defending humanity.

During the meeting, representatives of member states voiced concern about the persecution of Muslims living in non-Muslim countries, calling on the organization to create an initiative to counter such acts.

In his turn, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf spoke on the situation in Afghanistan and called for unity among Muslim nation to overcome hardship.

Analysts say the meeting is important for providing an opportunity for Islamic countries to unite their efforts and help one another.

On the sideline of the OIC meeting, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammed Baqer Qhalibaf met the Turkish president. Erdogan said the Organization of Islamic Cooperation should help Iran in coping with the Afghan refugee influx.

Speakers at the OIC emphasized the importance of unity of Muslim nations in the face of oppression, violence and Human rights violations. They vowed to continue cooperation to help one another.
