Argentinean super-star Lionel Messi has made history again after picking up the Ballon d’Or for a record seventh time.
Messi captained Argentina to glory in the Copa America for his first international title. The 34-year-old striker beat Poland’s Robert Lewandowski to lift the prestigious individual Award. The Argentine is now two clear of Cristiano Ronaldo who finished 6th in this year’s ranking. Messi registered 41 goals and 17 assists for club and country in 2021. Lewandowski himself won the Striker of the Year award. The Bayern Munich forward scored 41 Bundesliga goals last season breaking Gerd Muller’s long-standing season record. Meanwhile, PSG's Gianluigi Donnarumma won the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper.
