A very slow start in the opening quarter brought the Lakers 16 points down to the Knicks. But they rallied back in the second to take it 31-27. Russell Westbrook exploded in the third quarter to further trim the lead at the Madison Square Garden.
An energetic Los Angeles eventually brought the game to a tie in the fourth. However, the Knicks were too much to handle as they held off their visitors to a six-point defeat. Westbrook finished the night with a triple-double, tallying 31 points. The Lakers will visit the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, while the Knicks will host the Suns, on Friday.
Moreover at the association, the Portland Trail Blazers have thrashed the Denver Nuggets 119-100 at home. Denver faced their hosts without their MVP Nikola Jokic. The duo of CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard combined for a total of 57 points to keep the Nuggets down almost all the way through and win the game for Portland.
The Miami Heat also enjoyed a home-victory over the Detroit Pistons. Detroit had all the answers for three quarters, sitting on a score of 76-67, but Miami finally retaliated in the fourth and shook the hosts with an outstanding comeback to seal the deal 100-92. Point guard Tyler Herro was the lead scorer of the winning side, with 17 points.
