A former commander of Iranian military advisers in Syria has warned of the enemy’s plots for the division of the Arab country, saying the Islamic Republic vows to support Syrians in their relentless efforts to liberate their land from the hands of foreign troops and terrorist outfits.
General Javad Ghaffari made the remark in a ceremony held in Syria in appreciation of his sacrifices at the conclusion of his six-year-long anti-terror mission in the Arab country.
Ghaffari was the third commander of the Iranian Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) forces in Syria, after Major General Hossein Hamedani – who was martyred in a Daesh terrorist attack in Syria’s northern city of Aleppo on October 7, 2015 – and Brigadier General Mohammad Jafar Asadi.
“Our officers, our brothers and Hezbollah fighters from the frontline to the command center, they all stand with you to liberate your land,” Ghaffari said in his address to the ceremony.
“The enemy will not end its mischievous plans; the enemy will not end its occupation of your land. They are planning to disintegrate Syria and Iraq; and documents prove the existence of such plans. They want to stay in your land and divide it. You are entitled to liberate your land.”
The senior commander said, “We, Iranians, will stand by your side and support you. Our forces and officers will be among you,” stressing that, “New IRGC commanders in Syria will continue to support you in liberating your land.”
Ghaffari concluded his address by expressing his gratitude for the holding of the ceremony, and said, “Wherever we are, we will still love you from the bottom of our hearts.”
As Ghaffari was greeting with and bidding farewell to his Syrian companions and the attendees at the ceremony, a man was heard on a loudspeaker eulogizing the Iranian commander and his valor during his anti-terror mission in Syria.
“O great commander! We will never forget your greatness, sacrifice, heroism, steadfastness and courage,” it was said. “And we say that you were the best among us and your greatness will stay with us. Wherever you go, you will be among us and one of us. And we offer our gratitude and steadfastness to you.”
Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since 2011.
Iran has been offering military advisory support to Syria at the request of the Damascus government, enabling its army to speed up its gains on various fronts against terror groups.
In recent years, the US has been maintaining an illegal military presence on Syrian soil, collaborating with militants against Syria’s legitimate government, stealing the country’s crude oil resources, and bombing the positions of the Syrian army and anti-terror popular forces, all the while imposing crippling sanctions on Damascus.
Some regional countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, have also provided the militants with arms and financial support to overthrow the Syrian government.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and millions more displaced since the beginning of the conflict in Syria.
