Team Iran have edged closer to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with a 3-0 win over Syria in Group A.
The first chance of an entertaining first half came Iran’s way as Sardar Azmoun latched on to a perfect through-ball by Vahid Amiri before guiding his effort home through the keeper’s legs.
The Iranians continued to press for more and were awarded a VAR penalty in the 42nd minute with Ehsan Hajsafi stepping up to double the lead.
Iran’s third arrived in stunning style with a minute left on the clock as Ali Gholizadeh utilized a combination of dribbling skills and persistence to beat a number of defenders before drilling the ball home. The win means Iran remain at the top of Group A with 16 points, two clear of South Korea after six rounds.
