Iraqis are going to elect a new parliament in the fifth such elections since a US invasion of Iraq in 2003. The elections come amid public hope of bringing light to the war-torn and corruption-rife country.
Iraqis voiced their anger in central Baghdad back in October 2019 to demand the resignation of the government. They demanded better services and an end to what they say is wide-scale government corruption.
Press TV headed to the Tahrir Square where the rallies also known as the Tishreen movement took place. This is where the protests began back in October 2019; a protest movement that led to the early elections.
Many challenges await the new Iraqi government and the protest movement itself can play a major role by reshaping the direction of parliament, in addition to the many independent candidates that are running. But the other parties also maintain massive support within Iraq.
