Russia's Daniil Medvedev has reached his third consecutive US Open semifinal, after overcoming qualifier Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands 3 sets to 1.
Medvedev played with confidence against the Dutchman and took the opening set 6-3, before hammering his opponent 6-love in the 2secod.
However, the Dutch qualifier upped his game in the thirrd, and surprisingly took the set 6-4.
Despite the world no.117 showing some resilience in the 4th, Medvedev was just too experienced and managed to prevail in the tie-break, to end the contest after two hours and 24 minutes.
Meanwhile, Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime reached his first major semi-final at the US Open, as Carlos Alcaraz retired due to an undisclosed injury.
The Canadian led Alcaraz 6-3, 3-1 when the 18-year-old Spaniard called it quits.
Felix is the first Canadian man to advance to the last 4 at Flushing Meadows since the tournament began in 18-81. He will play Medvedev for a spot in the final.
