Turkey says it will decide on the Taliban’s government recognition after it is formed.

Turkish foreign minister said Ankara will not rush into recognizing a Taliban government in Afghanistan as it is still too early for this step.

In response to a question regarding Turkey's contact with the Taliban, Cavusoglu said Turkey had invited the political wing of the Taliban to Turkey before they had entered Kabul.

Earlier Turkish security sources said Ankara had dropped plans to guard and operate Kabul’s airport after the withdrawal of NATO forces from Afghanistan, following footage and reports of chaos taking place there after the Taliban’s takeover.

Turkey says its offer to provide technical and security assistance at the Kabul airport will be further discussed with the US.

The Turkish president had announced last week his readiness to meet with the Taliban leadership.

Turkey says so far the Taliban have been sending positive messages hoping that it will be followed with positive actions as well.

Turkey is now concerned about the refugee influx it is going to have after the Taliban's takeover in Afghanistan. This comes as it has been struggling to revive the economic situation in the country with a handful of refugees already there amid the coronavirus pandemic.
