Stefanos Tsitsipas has eased into the Canadian Open quarter-finals, after a straight-sets victory over Karen Khachanov of Russia.
The Greek star celebrated his 23rd birthday in style, by defeating the Tokyo Olympics silver medalist 6-3, 6-2, to reach the last 8 in Toronto for the second time.
Tsitsipas wrapped up the win in 80 minutes, after saving both break-points he faced, while converting three of the six chances he created.
He will next face Casper Ruud of Norway in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Meanwhile, the 6th-seed Norwegian, made light work of Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic 6-4, 6-3, after gaining the crucial break in the latter stages of both sets.
This will be Ruud’s 11th quarter-final of an ATP Tour Event this season, as he pursues a first ATP Masters 1000 title.
