Away from the Olympics, Rafael Nadal has opened up his campaign at the Citi Open in Washington, after beating Jack Sock in a three set thriller.
Spanish top seed Nadal beat his American opponent 6-2, 4-6, and 7-6 in front of a packed crowd to make it to the round of last 16 after over three hours.
The match was Nadal's first since losing to Novak Djokovic in the French Open semi-final in June.
The world number 4 will now face South African Lloyd Harris next for a spot in the quarterfinals.
