Italy have secured Olympic gold in style by breaking their own world record in the team pursuit discipline to see off World Champions Denmark.
The Danes took the lead at the 3 kilometer mark, but Italy's lead-man Filippo Ganna powered them back in the closing laps and crossed the line in 3 minutes and 42 point zero 32 seconds, to just about pip the Danes.
It was the first time in 61 years that Italy have secured gold in the event as they left the Danes with a silver medal, followed by Australia, who grabbed bronze.
