A Russian fighter jet that was on a training flight has crashed into the Sea of Okhotsk, after the pilot managed to eject safely.
The Air Force Sukhoi Su-35 Flanker-E crashed into the sea in the Khabarovsk Territory due to an engine malfunction on Saturday, the Russian military said in a statement.
A search and rescue team found the pilot and transported him to his military base.
“The pilot ejected and was promptly found and recovered by rescue team, which brought him back to the airfield. There is no threat to the pilot’s health,” the statement said.
According to preliminary data, the out-of-control plane continued its flight and crashed.
The military has launched an investigation into the incident.
Russia’s Su-35 jet, which is the country’s top air-superiority aircraft in service, represents a pinnacle of fourth-generation warplane design.
