Disgusting scenes coincided with England’s historic defeat against Italy in the Euro 2020 football competition, as fights, vandalism and racism were recorded both before and after full time.
The majority of the racism was online, and aimed at 3 black players who failed to scored vital penalty kicks, costing England the game. The flood of hate forced even the PM to speak out against it.
Many would have hoped that football hooliganism, which was was once referred to as the “English disease” had been cured but as was shown last night, this disease is far from extinct.
Footage recorded outside the stadium showed mobs of ticketless fans storm past the gates, gaining illegal entry, only to be met by a rival mob of fans fighting to keep them out.
While the once clean streets of Central London was turned into a giant rubbish tip by frustrated fans lashing out.
These actions have now led to a Football Association review of England’s conduct and condemnation by the London Met Police. However, if fans can be properly held in check England could risk major fines or even being banned from competing.
