Roger Federer has cruised into his 18th Wimbledon quarter-final after a straight sets win over Lorenzo Sonego of Italy.

Federer who is bidding for a 9th title at the All England Club broke Sonego for 6-5 lead and saved two break-points in the next game to take the first set.

The Swiss Great paced it up in the second set to beat the Italian 6-4 and broke him twice in the third on his way to a 6-2 win.

The 39-year-old is now the oldest man in the Open Era to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals.

Next up, he will meet either Daniil Medvedev or Hubert Hurkacz in his all-time record-extending 58th Grand Slam quarter-final.
