US Congressman Adam Schiff has called on the administration of President Joe Biden to “push harder” on Israel and the Palestinian Authority to prevent the “terrible tragedy” unfolding in Gaza, amid the increased Israeli aggression.

“I think we need to do everything possible to bring about a ceasefire. I think the administration needs to push harder on Israel and the Palestinian Authority to stop the violence, bring about a ceasefire, end these hostilities, and get back to a process of trying to resolve this long-standing conflict,” Schiff told CBS News on Sunday.

Schiff, the chair of the House Intelligence Committee, said that “the loss of life is just deplorable.”

He said that Israel “has to use every effort to avoid civilian casualties. And now I think they are trying, but nonetheless, the death toll increases and the violence has got to stop.”

A number of Democrats in the US Congress have called on the Biden administration to take a tougher stand against Israel and support Palestinian rights.

“The fact that this administration is even hesitating to take such a basic humane stance is disappointing and unacceptable,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) told reporters at the Capitol. “We can’t advance this idea that we’re some neutral party in this situation if our actions are consistently targeting Palestinians.”

She pointed to a “strong generational shift” that is undergirding the disdain for the Washington foreign policy establishment, according to Politico.

Israel has been pounding the blockaded enclave with repeated airstrikes for the past several days.

At least 188 Palestinians, including 55 children and 33 women, have been killed and about 1,230 others injured in Gaza in the Israeli regime's latest round of aggression that began on Monday.

On Saturday, Israel launched an airstrike on a refugee camp in the besieged Gaza Strip, killing eight children of a Palestinian family.

Israeli forces launched an airstrike on a building that housed several news organizations, including The Associated Press and Al Jazeera in Gaza City on Saturday, amid the latest round of Israeli aggression in the area. The entire 12-story building collapsed, according to AP.

On Sunday, Israeli warplanes bombed the home of the Hamas leader in Gaza City, as Tel Aviv’s latest aggression against the besieged enclave entered the seventh day.

The aircraft attacked Yahya Sinwar’s home in the early hours of Sunday, but it was not immediately clear if anyone was inside the house.

The attack shows the Israeli regime is looking for a face-saving exit from its latest adventure - which has seen Gaza-based resistance groups respond with unprecedented missile barrages and gain international legitimacy - by claiming victory through a big hit.
