Biden determined to ruin any chance of peace with Russia: Journalist

US President Joe Biden is apparently determined to wipe out any chance of improving diplomatic relations with Russia through sanctions and the expulsion of diplomats, says an American journalist.

Max Parry told Press TV on Sunday that what the new US president is “determined to do is to wipe out whatever was left of any good quality relations under the Trump administration and even under the Obama administration.”

“How come the present US administration is somehow trying to wipe out the remnants of goodwill in financial diplomatic relations with Russia? “Parry asked.

"While it's dubious what the actual reason for this is, they definitely seem to want to alienate the US from other countries, and there's a lot of other countries out there that are feeling rather strongly against the US at this point," he noted.

Earlier this week, the Biden administration imposed new sanctions on Russia and announced plans to expel ten Russian diplomats in Washington, in retaliation for alleged election interference, a massive cyber-attack, and other hostile activity.

Russia, which has denied that it interfered in the election, threatened Washington with an intensive response to sanctions.

“How credible are the claims made by Washington?  Parry asked. “They are not very credible at all.” He also argued that the US has “no idea what actually happened,” but it blames “Russia because, you know, why not, we [Washington] can do that.”

“And the fact that this whole ‘Russiagate’ thing is still hanging over from 2016 is really an embarrassment,” the journalist continued.

In the past six years or so, the US has imposed waves of sanctions against Russia, including over the alleged interference in its 2016 presidential elections and the recent jailing of pro-Western blogger Alexei Navalny.

Relations between the White House and the Kremlin hit a new low last month after Biden said in an interview that he believed Russian President Vladimir Putin was a “killer” and that the Russian president would have to “pay a price” for interference in US elections.

While Putin himself took Biden’s description lightly, the Russian government recalled the ambassador to the US for consultations.

The latest US sanctions came despite an offer by Biden to hold a summit with Putin.

Biden talked with Putin over the phone on Tuesday.

The Kremlin said that the Russian president agreed with Biden on the importance of dialog, but it was still considering the offer for a summit between the two leaders.

Parry noted that Washington’s bellicose policy toward Moscow will further drive Russia and China together, which would in turn isolate the United States even more on the world stage.

“It's basically going to leave China on the top because China and Russia are going to end up making the alliance because the US absolutely refuses to do anything that involves cooperating with Russia,” he said.
