Press TV reports: Iran deal remedial steps to remarkably increase after nuclear sabotage

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman tells Press TV that Iran’s remedial measures taken in retaliation for the United States’ unilateral withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and re-imposition of sanctions will “remarkably increase” after the recent act of sabotage against a nuclear facility in the country.

Speaking to Press TV on Tuesday, Saeed Khatibzadeh said “the Islamic Republic’s retaliatory measures within the framework of the JCPOA will significantly increase due to the recent nuclear sabotage,” referring to the Iran deal by the acronym of its official name, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Earlier today, the Iranian nuclear delegation — headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi — arrived in Vienna, Austria, for another round of talks within the framework of the JCPOA Joint Commission on ways to make the US remove its anti-Iran sanctions and return to the nuclear deal so that Tehran will reverse its retaliatory steps.

The talks come days after Iran reported that a reckless act of sabotage targeted the electricity distribution network of Shahid Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan nuclear facility in Natanz, which is a uranium enrichment center located in the city of the same name in Iran’s central province of Isfahan.

The attack caused a blackout and the disruption of the operations of the sensitive nuclear facility which has been under the safeguards and extensive monitoring of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The incident, however, failed to inflict damage on the site or disrupt uranium enrichment there.

The Israeli regime is the prime suspect behind the act of subversion.

Commenting on the forthcoming round of discussions in the Austrian city, Khatibzadeh said the “definitive policy of the [Islamic] establishment, which has been emphasized by Leader of the Islamic Revolution (Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei), is on the agenda of the Iranian delegation to the Vienna talks.”

“Only after the removal of all the sanctions imposed, re-imposed or re-labeled and its full and prompt verification of the [removal], Iran will stop its remedial measures,” the official added.

“The Americans should avoid all sorts of misapprehension [here],” said the Iranian official. He, meanwhile, cautioned, after delivering the warning, about the prospect of a remarkable increase in Iran’s nuclear reprisal.

Former US president Donald Trump quit Washington’s participation in the JCPOA in 2018, and returned the sanctions that the agreement had lifted.

Trump was trying to destroy the agreement, but failed after the JCPOA’s other members remained in the deal.

The Israeli regime, the JCPOA’s fiercest opponent, as well as some of the regime’s regional and international allies have been singled out as the main force that prompted the US to leave the deal and restore the economic bans.

Tel Aviv has incessantly but unsuccessfully been trying to damage Iran’s progress in the field of peaceful nuclear energy, including by assassinating Iranian nuclear scientists besides targeting Iran’s nuclear work with acts of sabotage.
