In Najaf, a grateful Pope is welcomed by Iraq’s top Shia cleric
Pope Francis was in Iraq and he held closed-door talks with prominent Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.
The visiting pontiff at Ayatollah Sistani’s home in the holy city of Najaf was informed of the cleric’s resolute stance regarding the support for the Palestinian cause as well as his serious criticism of Western sanctions against Iraq.
