US President Joe Biden is set to announce an end to American support for Saudi Arabia’s war of aggression against the people of Yemen, an aide has said.

During his first major foreign policy speech at the State Department on Thursday, President Biden will announce a freeze on troop redeployments from Germany, The Washington Post reported.

The announcements are part of a Democratic desire to strengthen alliances and reengage with multinational institutions, following former President Donald Trump’s disastrous foreign policy which alienated traditional American allies in Europe, according to the aids.

Yemen's Houthi Ansarullah resistance fighters welcomed President Biden's plans to end US support for the war in Yemen, saying it was a step towards ending the long conflict.

"We hope this will be the beginning of a decision to stop the war on Yemen," senior Houthi political official Hamid Assem told AFP. "America's reputation has been tarnished by the killing of the people of Yemen."

Saudi Arabia launched a devastating military aggression against Yemen in March 2015 in collaboration with a number of its allied states, and with arms support from the US and several Western countries.

The aim was to return to power a Riyadh-backed former regime and defeat the Houthi Ansarullah movement that has taken control of state matters.

The war has failed to achieve its goals, but killed tens of thousands of innocent Yemenis and destroyed the impoverished country’s infrastructure. The UN refers to the situation in Yemen as the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

On January 13, the spokesman for the Houthi Ansarullah movement urged the regimes waging war under the protection of then-US President Donald Trump to stop their bloody aggression.

Mohammed Abdul-Salam called on the aggressor regimes relying on Trump to end their offensive against Yemen completely.
