Former US President Donald Trump is set to meet with the top Republican in the House of Representatives as the GOP tries to unite the party in the wake of defeat in the 2020 presidential election.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy privately called GOP members to stop attacking each other.

"Cut that crap out," McCarthy told his members. “No more attacks to one another.”

Trump has been staying in his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, since leaving the White House for the final time last week

The former president, who has kept a low-profile since leaving office, was angry at McCarthy for his speech on the floor before Trump was impeached for a second time on January 13.

McCarthy was critical of the former president in the wake of the deadly breach of the US Capitol pro-Trump supporters.

Trump opened his office of the former president on Monday, but has been relatively quiet because he is banned from Twitter.
