IRGC chief: Recent drills gave enemies warning against any miscalculation

Chief Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Hossein Salami

The chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says the recent military exercises in Iran were a show of the country’s deterrent power and served as a warning to enemies against any miscalculation in dealing with the Islamic Republic.

“The recent maneuvers showed the Iranian nation’s will to defend the Islamic Revolution’s achievements, independence, territorial integrity and power,” Major General Hossein Salami told reporters on Tuesday.

He added that the military drills also conveyed Iran’s serious message to enemies that it is fully ready to safeguard its identity, independence and dignity matter-of-factly.

“We have fingers on the trigger on behalf of the great Iranian nation,” the IRGC chief commander said.

He said the IRGC forces are prepared to protect the Iranian nation under any circumstances in the face of any threat along the borders, in the heart of the homeland, or deep in faraway territories.

Salami expressed confidence that all security and political developments would ultimately serve the interests of the Iranian people as they already did in the past.

The Iranian Army and the IRGC have recently held several exercises across the country amid America’s stepped-up military threats against Iran in the final days of US President Donald Trump in office.

Last week, the IRGC held massive military drills in central Iran, in which it tested its latest ballistic missiles and combat drones.

Missiles of Zulfaqar, Zelzal, and Dezful classes were fired at the targets during the drills. The missiles were equipped with detachable and guided warheads, capable of disrupting and infiltrating into the enemy's missile shield.

During recent months, Washington has taken provocative measures that exacerbated the already tense situation with Tehran. It has flown B-52 bombers over the Persian Gulf, dispatched a nuclear-powered submarine to the region, and extended the stay of an aircraft carrier as a warning to the Islamic Republic.

‘Firm response awaits enemy’s slightest mistake’

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said on Tuesday that the Armed Forces would give a crushing and firm response to the enemy’s slightest mistake about the country’s defense prowess.

Hatami, who attended a session of the Parliament’s Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, added that the Islamic Republic has been facing different threats by the terrorist US regime, particularly the administration of outgoing President Donald Trump.

He said Iran’s defense power belongs to the Iranian people and all regional nations, and that the Islamic Republic has always protected integrated security in the region.

“Our defense power aims to preserve our country’s peace and security and that is the reason why we have maintained it with full force and will promote it,” the Iranian defense chief said.

Pointing to recent US acts of provocation in the region, Hatami said Iran staged various drills to demonstrate the Armed Forces’ preparedness to defend national security and dignity.
