Former US Attorney General William Barr told President Donald Trump that his claims of a stolen election are “bulls---“ and the legal team he is counting on for his future is “clownish,” a report says.
The Trump loyalist made the comments on December 2, 2020, in the private dining room next to the Oval Office in White House, Axios reported https://www.axios.com/trump-barr-relationship-off-the-rails-b33b3788-e7e9-47fa-84c5-3a0016559eb5.html Monday.
“Trump had angrily dragged Barr in to explain himself after seeing a breaking AP story all over Twitter, with the headline: ‘Disputing Trump, Barr says no widespread election fraud.’ But Barr was not backing down. Three weeks later, he would be gone,” read the report.
White House counsel Pat Cipollone and a few other aides were also in the room when Barr explained himself about refusing to challenge the 2020 race, won by President-elect Joe Biden.
"Why would you say such a thing? You must hate Trump. There’s no other reason for it. You must hate Trump,” the president said.
Axios called the Trump-Bar relationship “arguably the most consequential in Trump's Cabinet.”
The president has lost major support within the GOP and his own inner circle over challenging election results, refusing to concede defeat and inciting violence by his supporters, many of whom are armed.
