An American political analyst believes that Press TV is one of those media outlets the United States does not want Americans to hear its viewpoints.
Rick Staggenborg made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Thursday when asked about Facebook which briefly disabled its account with nearly four million followers on Tuesday.
The social media giant alleged that Iran’s international English news network was not eligible to use the social media platform.
In a notification upon taking down the page, Facebook said the decision was “final,” adding that it could not provide additional information for “safety and security reasons.” However, it reversed the decision hours later in response to an appeal filed by Press TV.
Staggenborg said, “The disabling of Press TV’s account was just part of a larger campaign by the United States to control the information that reaches their own people.”
There is no democracy in the US and it is just an illusion, he said, adding, “The only way to maintain that illusion is to control the flows of information and that’s particularly important in terms of manipulating public opinion on foreign policy issues.”
He went on to say “our main stream media gives” Americans “lies about foreign policy” that all come from a group of people who control the US’ foreign policy.
“They are looking out for the interests of large transitional corporations who profit from war, who profit from chaos, who profit from controlling the oil supplies.”
However, Press TV, like certain other foreign news networks, is “an outlet that’s presenting its own point of view and they do not want us to hear it,” Staggenborg said.
He pointed out that he and other American commentators can “get our voices heard” via Press TV and other similar networks as they “reach people all over the world.”
