Countrywide protests are underway in Pakistan to condemn the recent killings of 11 people belonging to the Shia Hazara community in Quetta. Families of the victims have refused to bury their loved ones until their demands are met.

These protesters have been camped on the main road in Quetta, the provincial capital of Pakistan’s Balouchistan province, for the last five days. Sitting in a freezing temperature, they have been protesting against the killings of people from Hazra community.

On Sunday, 11 coal miners belonging to the Hazra community were kidnapped and then brutally killed. The Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility.

Demonstrations have been taking place in different parts of the country to show support for the victims' families. In Islamabad, these protesters have been staging a sit-in, demanding action against those who were behind the recent killings of people from the Hazra community.

Main opposition leaders visited the protests in Quetta, but Prime Minister Imran Khan has yet to see them despite demands by the victims' families.

This is not the first time that people belonging to the Hazra community have been targeted. Since 1998, around 2,000 Shia hazaras were killed in targeted killings as well as other terrorist attacks.

Khan strongly condemned the terrorist attack against Hazaras and promised to bring all those who were responsible to justice. But these protesters are not convinced with the verbal assurances and hence they say will continue their protest until their demands are met.
