The Nevada Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by the US President Donald Trump's campaign to overturn the state's election results, the latest blow to the Republican president’s legal efforts to change the results in the states he did not win.
“We also are not convinced that the district court erred in applying a burden of proof by clear and convincing evidence, as supported by the cases cited in the district court’s order,” Nevada’s Supreme Court said in its judgment on Tuesday night.
This comes after the state's lower court announced on Friday that it has found no evidence supporting the claims of fraud and wrongdoing in the state's election process.
Trump's campaign claims that over 61,000 people have voted twice or were not Nevada residents. According the Washington Post, when Nevada attorney general has demanded Trump's lawyer to provide evidence, he has been unable to do so.
"They never once presented sufficient evidence of widespread fraud. Yes, they spouted nonsense in the media. But they NEVER backed it up in court. That’s why they always lost. And that’s why they lost again tonight," Ford wrote on Twitter early Wednesday.
The Democratic nominee Joe Biden won Nevada with 33,596 popular votes, securing the state's six Electoral College votes.
Trump has so far refused to concede defeat in the election and mounted multiple legal challenges to reverse the results in several key states.
However, his campaign’s efforts have so far met with little success in the courtroom or on the ground.
