A Republican lawmaker has called on US Attorney General William Barr to investigate the son of President-elect Joe Biden, Hunter.
Republican Rep. Ken Buck wrote a letter on Monday to the longtime Trump ally, urging him to appoint a special counsel for the task, Fox News reported.
“This investigation is critical to defending the integrity of our republic and ensuring a potential Biden Administration will not be the subject of undue foreign interference,” Buck wrote. “Americans have the right to know whether Mr. Biden’s reported ties to foreign governments will make him the subject of blackmail attempts or other nefarious efforts to undermine US national security or otherwise improperly influence American foreign policy.”
He further likened appointment of a special counsel to the one investigating alleged Russian collusion and intervention in the 2016 presidential election, run by Bob Mueller.
“Similar to when the DOJ appointed Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III, it is critical that this investigation continue free from political interference, no matter who is in the White House,” Buck wrote. “We must guarantee the integrity of our government and the security of our republic.”
The GOP lawmaker further mentioned Hunter Biden’s laptop, which President Trump described as “laptop from hell” during his 2020 campaign rallies.
“As such, I urge the DOJ to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate Hunter Biden’s actions and the potentially incriminating contents of his laptop to ensure this important investigation will be completed.”
Barr, who is a Trump loyalist, has so far resisted pressure to heed The Trump team’s demand of bringing Hunter Biden to justice.
