The humanitarian crisis in Yemen has been exacerbated by the incessant war and siege over the past six years.

The Executive Director of the World Food Program, David Beasley, confirmed that the number of people facing the second-highest level of food insecurity will increase from 3.6 million to 5 million in the first half of 2021.

Beasley called on the international community not to abandon the millions of families who are in severe need of aid.

Millions of people are on the brink of a new famine as the UN's Yemen response faces historic shortfalls. 1.5 billion dollars is what the donor governments contributed while the UN says it needs 3.2 billion to avert the crisis.

The coronavirus pandemic along with the funding crunch has forced dozens of aid agencies and organizations working in Yemen to scale back their assistance. Some of them even had to give up their programs entirely, which has deteriorated the worst humanitarian crisis in the world according to the UN.

Famine can still be prevented if the international community wakes up to take serious action to save the lives of millions in Yemen, including women and children.
