Ford driver Esapekka Lappi has stolen the march in the WRC’s Rally Monza, while Thierry Neuville had to retire from the race.
Lappi who had set the second fastest time on Friday’s opening stage, employed heavily threaded snow tyres for the slippery re-run, and the extra grip enabled him to claim stage 4, almost 3 seconds ahead of Dani Sordo.
Overnight leader Sebastien Ogier was 3rd in his Toyota 7.7 seconds off the pace, with Championship favorite Elfyn Evans on his tail a further 6 seconds adrift.
However, Thierry Neuville’s title hopes dashed away after his Hyundai hit a bollard, forcing the Belgian to retire.
