US President-elect Joe Biden has reportedly made a decision on his pick for the secretary of state although President Donald Trump has not conceded yet.
Sources told Axios that the nation's top diplomatic post will not go to former national security adviser and United Nations ambassador Susan Rice.
“Several Democrats close to Biden expect him to name his longtime adviser Tony Blinken to State,” read the report.
Along with Rice and Blinken, other names potentially considered for the role also include Delaware Senator Chris Coons, and Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy and former US Ambassador to Russia William Burns.
“Biden's inner circle has remained leak-proof on the names of his final selections.”
The former vice president is set to roll out several top cabinet picks next week as Trump keeps disputing the election results.
Biden could face a hard time getting his pick nominated at the Senate if two runoff elections in Georgia on January 5 are won by Republicans, giving control to the GOP in the upper chamber of US Congress.
Biden has suggested that his cabinet picks "will be accepted by all elements of the Democratic Party, from the progressive to the moderate coalitions."
