UEFA Nations League: Belgium 2-0 England

To football in Europe, Belgium have tightened their grip on the top spot in the Nations League Group A-2 after knocking out England with a 2-0 victory at home.

Belgium took the lead after only 10 minutes of play when Romelu Lukaku laid the ball off to Youri Tielemans who rifled home from outside the box.

England almost hit back immediately with Harry Kane sending a header past the keeper, but Lukaku pulled off a brilliant intervention to block the effort. But short after, Dries Mertens curled in a fine free-kick to secure the win for Belgium, who will play Denmark on Wednesday to decide which side will go to the Nations League finals.

Elsewhere, Italy have moved to Group A-one's summit after beating Poland 2-nil at home. Italy thought they had gone up in the 20th minute, when Lorenzo Insigne drilled in on a cross, only for the goal to be deemed offside by the match official.

But they came up with the opener 7 minutes later as Jorginho slotted home with a penalty kick. The hosts then grabbed a deserved second with 6 minutes remaining when Domenico Berardi scored his second international goal. Italy will next face Bosnia on Wednesday.
