Republicans engaged in massive voter suppression

For Democrats to win, they must get as many voters to the polls as possible.  They rely on groups of voters - young people, and people of color - who are not as likely to vote as the Republican base.  According to the Democratic Party leadership, every election is the most important of our lifetimes, and if we fail to get out and vote for them our democracy and everything we hold dear is in jeopardy.

If voters believe Biden is far ahead of Trump, they might stay home rather than stand in long lines at a polling place and risk coronavirus infection to do their civic duty.  If they are not enthusiastic about Biden’s candidacy (and who is?) they might not vote.  Obama is desperately trying to convince them that Biden could lose if they don’t personally vote for him.

This time they may be right, but they have cried “Wolf” so many times that voters no longer believe them.  Also, they nominated the most boring, establishment-entrenched candidate available.  You might well ask why they did that if this is the most crucial election.  They will never admit the reason.  The Democrats don’t care about working people or people of color, and they continue to disregard and even insult the progressives who form a large part of their base.  The Democrats care about the billionaires who fund their campaigns and provide cushy jobs for them if they lose.

Examine the top funders of the Biden campaign if you want to know who they care about.  The biggest contributor is a super-PAC largely funded by billionaire George Soros and another supported by a collection of Wall Street hedge fund magnates, along with Soros.  The top 6 contributors to Biden’s campaign are all “dark-money” funds who are not required to reveal their donors. These people are not donating millions of dollars because of their deep love for democracy. They are making investments in politicians.  If those politicians win, they expect to be repaid many times over in tax breaks, sweetheart contracts, lax regulation, and protection against consumers and workers who they may injure.

Obama goes so far as to tell outright lies, or fantasies if you will, about Biden and the need for a Democrat win.  When he says there is “a growing movement for justice, equality and progress”, he fails to explain that the Democratic Party is not at all involved in that movement and opposes many of its goals.

When Trump won in 2016, the Democrats should have thoroughly examined the reasons they lost and which segment of voters switched from Obama to Trump and why.  They did not. They and their friends in the intelligence agencies and the media concocted a ridiculous story about Russian interference and collusion and tried to sell it to the American people.  They are still trying.

Given that President Trump has been questioning the integrity of the voting process and the Republicans are engaged in a massive voter suppression and intimidation campaign, the Democrats are right to be worried, regardless of the polls.
