Tehran’s Holy Defense museum is once again home to one of the country’s oldest literary exhibitions.
The annual Sacred Defense book fair has earned itself a name as a leading literary event that honors those who publish books, memoirs and biographies about the Iraqi-imposed war on Iran in the 1980s.
Over 50 publishers and organizations have attended this year’s event.
The books, magazines and accompanying exhibitions honor the sacrifices made by those involved in the war, telling the stories of ordinary men and women who lost their lives in the conflict.
They tell the stories of medical staff and volunteers or feature poems written by soldiers in autograph books as well as scrapbooks filled with newspaper cuttings and wartime mementos.
The exhibition also contributes to the ongoing war against terrorism and extremism in Iraq and Syria. While focusing primarily on making the Iran-Iraq war's literature publicly accessible, the annual event seeks to help the entire publishing sector as well.
Similar book exhibitions and artistic events are also underway across the country. These events are aimed at showcasing local offerings and connecting writers and organizations that are active in the field of sacred defense with their audiences.
