Toyota's LMP1 cars raced to a 1-2 finish in changing conditions as rain hit the World Endurance Championship (WEC) 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps Saturday in Belgium.
The #8 Toyota held the lead through the early wet portion of the race before taking a chance on slick tires that proved costly as rain began to fall again, allowing the sister #7 car to grab the lead and the win. The polesitting #1 Rebellion Racing R13 finished third.
The competitive LMP2 class saw the #22 United Autosports Oreca-07 race to it's third class win in a row after better pitstop strategy in the difficult conditions. The #42 Cool Racing Oreca-07 finished second with the #29 Racing Team Nederland car claiming the final step of the LMP2 class podium.
On the GTE Pro side of the track it was Porsche's #92 car taking the class win, followed by the #95 Aston Martin, just under six seconds back, and then Aston's #97 entry in third.
GTE Am saw another close finish with the #83 AF Corse Ferrari 488 claiming the class victory by just under three seconds over the #77 Dempsey Proton Porsche with the #90 TF Sport Aston just under a minute back in third.
The series now heads to France for next month's Le Mans 24 Hours, moved from it's usual June spot to September 19-20 due to the coronavirus.
