Criterium Du Dauphine: Van Aert wins opening stage

Over the cycling news, Belgian rider Wout van Aert has won the opening stage of the 2020 Criterium du Dauphine.

In form Van Aert finished the 218 Kilometer opening stage in 5 hours, 27 minutes, and 32 seconds. South Africa's Daryl Impey crossed the line, 4 seconds behind the leader, while 2019 Tour De France winner, Egan Bernal, finished 3rd, with a mere 2 seconds further back.

The race will continue on Thursday, with a 135 km stage. The Dauphine is a warm up event, ahead of the Tour de France, which had originally been scheduled to begin in May, but organizers postponed it to August, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
