Red paint was smeared across the Black Lives Matter mural on Monday (July 13), which was painted on Fifth Avenue in front of Trump Tower in New York just last week.

The New York City Police Department was investigating the damage.

Similar murals have been painted on New York City streets and in US cities including Washington, DC, Raleigh, North Carolina and Oakland, California.

The Black Lives Matter movement gained momentum following the death of George Floyd who died in police custody in May in Minneapolis.
