During peaceful demonstrations in June 2018 Israeli forces shot and killed young Palestinian paramedic Razan Najjar.
The volunteer paramedic was treating wounded protesters who were taking part in the Great march of Return rallies. Two years on, there has been no justice for Razan and other Palestinian victims of Israel’s brutality. Israeli forces killed hundreds of peaceful protesters and injured thousands more during the Great March of Return including paramedics and journalists.
Since the beginning of the peaceful demonstrations in late March 2018, demonstrators have been demanding the right of return for Palestinian refugees to the historic land of Palestine and the complete lifting of the hermetic blockade. The Israeli regime adopted a shoot to kill policy against Palestinian protesters. Razan’s family says Tel Aviv’s crimes will continue to go unpunished as long as it enjoys protection from the United States.
Targeting civilians, who exercise their right to peaceful assembly or while carrying out their humanitarian duty, is a serious violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Following the killing of Razan, Israeli forces killed two more Gazan paramedics and damaged many ambulances.
Observers say the killing of medical workers is just another example of Israel’s callous disregard for the value of human life. For decades the Israeli regime has demonstrated zero accountability to crimes perpetrated by its soldiers. Palestinian human rights organizations are calling on the international community to help end Israel’s impunity.
