Beijing tourist sites reopen on Labor Day holiday as COVID restrictions eased

Visitors hit tourist sites in the Beijing suburbs on Friday, as they reopened on Labor Day, amid an easing of coronavirus restrictions.

Footage shows groups of tourists visiting the Shi Lin Xia scenic area on the first national holiday since the lockdown. Visitors passed though body temperature checks and had their health codes scanned at check points before entering the area.

The amount of visitors is however still low compared to last year. "There are just six buses to the scenic area today and around 30 people in each bus," said Ke Guan, a tour guide.

"I think the prevention is good in the scenic area. The staff here always reminds the tourists to wear mask. It is a long break for May Day. There are a lot of people going out. We indeed need to pay more attention on self-protection," said another guide, Miss Wang.

About 70 percent of China's attractions has reopened on May Day. However, tourist sites are only allowed to take at most 30 percent of their designed capacity.
