US exploiting coronavirus to ‘reassert hegemony’ over nations: Analyst

E Michael Jones

US oligarchs and globalists are seeking to exploit the coronavirus pandemic to “reassert hegemony” over Iran and other nations that have rejected US imperialism, says an American writer and former professor.

President Hassan Rouhani has warned the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to consider Iran’s request for $5 billion without “discrimination” after reports said the US was seeking to block the loan.

While the IMF has said it is in dialogue with Iranian authorities to understand Iran’s needs and what is required for Tehran's demand to be processed, several reports say the fund is under the US pressure to forego the request.

Iran’s Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati wrote last month to the IMF to request a $5 billion emergency loan for funding Tehran’s needs to fight the novel coronavirus.

“The IMF, all of these things are part of the globalist elite that rules the world and the United States is the premier power and so they're the ones that control the globalist economy,” said E Michael Jones, the current editor of Culture Wars magazine.

“The whole point of this is to use the economy as warfare on nations that they consider intransigent,” Jones said Monday in an interview with Press TV.

“The issue here with coronavirus is an attempt to reassert hegemony over the world narrative because the oligarchs lost control of this in 2019 is the battle of the internet at that time," he added.

Iran is currently the worst-hit country by the coronavirus in the Middle East, where the respiratory disease has killed more than 3,800 people and infected over 62,000 others.

Illegal US sanctions have hampered the virus fight in Iran.

The US launched the so-called maximum pressure campaign against Iran after pulling out of the 2015 multilateral accord — officially named the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — and re-imposing the sanctions it had lifted under the agreement.

The pullout decision came despite numerous reports by the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), confirming the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities and Tehran’s compliance with the JCPOA.

“We are now involved in a legal crisis because we have a group of people who feel that justice is the opinion of the powerful,” Jones said.

“So everything that the United States has done with regard to Iran violates the whole principle of rule by law, ever since the rejection of the JCPOA. The entire foreign policy of the United States with regard to Iran is a rejection of the rule of law in the interest of oligarchic groups in America primarily the Israel lobby.”
