Jeremy Corbyn appeared calm, reflective and stroic in his final PMQ

Outgoing Labour party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, has departed the commanding heights of British politics by concluding his final Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQ).

In a parting shot at Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, Corbyn warned the Tory leader against delivering his “political obituary” as the outgoing Labour leader intends to continue campaigning for social justice.

Not surprisingly, Corbyn’s final PMQ was dominated by the coronavirus pandemic and the government’s strategy to contain the crisis.

The veteran Labour leader called on Johnson to increase testing for coronavirus, ban all non-urgent construction work, extend support to the self-employed and renters facing eviction and to help British citizens stranded abroad.

Corbyn is departing the limelight at a critical time, with the UK in the midst of an unprecedented crisis with credible reports of potential military intervention to suppress pandemic-related social unrest.

Corbyn, who became Labour party leader in September 2015, participated in 136 PMQs and squared off against Johnson no less than 14 times.

The outgoing Labour leader’s final PMQ coincides with an early Easter recess (due to the pandemic), with the House of Commons closing for business later today and not expected to reconvene until April 21.

The successor to Corbyn as Labour party leader was scheduled to be elected by early April but the internal election process has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
