US Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren says former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg is an "egomaniac billionaire."
The senator from Massachusetts made the comment Tuesday after Bloomberg officially qualified for Wednesday night's primary debate in Las Vegas, marking the first time the billionaire takes part in a debate with other Democratic contenders.
"It’s a shame Mike Bloomberg can buy his way into the debate," Warren wrote on Twitter. "But at least now primary voters curious about how each candidate will take on Donald Trump can get a live demonstration of how we each take on an egomaniac billionaire."
Bloomberg has been accused of buying his way into the 2020 primary mostly by Senator Bernie Sanders, the current frontrunner in the field, known for taking on billionaires.
Bloomberg’s presidential campaign is trying to portray other Democratic contenders, mostly Joe Biden, Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg, as irrelevant in the 2020 primary race, indicating that the main competition is between him and Sanders.
According to Dan Kanninen, the Bloomberg campaign’s states director, “Mike is quite clearly in a strong second place in this primary and rising rapidly above the rest of the field, which is either stagnant or declining quickly... None of the other Democrats beside Mike or Bernie is in a position to amass delegates in a serious way on Super Tuesday.”
Bernie Sanders' support has climbed 9 points to 31 percent since December 2019, according to the NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll, followed by, Boomberg whose support spiked by 15 points to 19 percent.
